This year we are going to the Dolomites, home of some of the best mountain scenery and riding roads in the world.  We have chosen to go a bit later in the year this time, so hopefully we get 100% great weather this time.

Winery visit, tasting and lunch : Friday 27th August, 11.30- 13.00

This event has been organised by a new member, David Cobbold. David is an Englishman who lives in France and who is a wine journalist and teacher with 27 years experience in the wine trade.

Italy, with France, is the largest wine producing country in the world, and there are vineyards in all its regions. To the west of the Dolomites lies the Alto Adige region, whose wines, mainly white, are of very high quality. We have planned a visit to one of its top producers, Aloïs Lageder, which will include a winery tour, a short wine tasting, and lunch. We are very aware that drinking and riding motorcycles does not mix, and everyone signing up for this event should understand that this is a wine tasting, NOT a drinking party. In fact David will explain to the party that one does not need to swallow wine to appreciate its flavours or understand its story, and will show you how to taste and then spit out the wines, thus avoiding absorbing alcohol. In any case the quantities served will be small, and we have organised a lunch to follow to balance things.

David will provide, for those coming to the winery, an introduction to the wines of the region in the morning before leaving the hotel. We will be visiting the winery of AloÏs Lageder, (www.aloislageder.eu) whose wines have been at the top of the quality tree for some time. As well as producing excellent wines that are internationally renowned, the modern extension to its traditional building is of considerable architectural and ecological interest. Our visit and tasting will be conducted by Sgr Lageder himself. We will then have lunch in their reception rooms bofore taking to the road again.

The hotel we are basing from this year is the  HOTEL MARIANNA.

Hotel Marianna has 16 rooms. These rooms will be occupied initially for 3 or 4 people per room. In a close range around Hotel Marianna, there are several B&B’s that she will use when the 16 rooms are occupied (we have the whole hotel for the week-end) starting with people that use a double room or single room.

Breakfast and dinner will be served in hotel Marianna for all the people.
